DVD: Steve Heiting’s Trophy Musky Triggers
60 minutes • $24.95
Perhaps the most frustrating thing for musky fishermen is the fish’s habit of following lures but not striking. A new musky fishing DVD has been produced to help anglers trigger following muskies and to understand how they use underwater structure and cover.
Steve Heiting’s Trophy Musky Triggers is a fast-paced, hour-long DVD that was filmed during the 2004 and 2005 seasons in northern Wisconsin, Ontario, Minnesota and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
“Big muskies following lures but not striking is a problem that has always plagued fishermen,” said Heiting. “However, understanding how muskies use structure and cover, and incorporating numerous tricks and techniques, can result in these fish being caught.”
Subjects discussed and techniques demonstrated in the DVD include:
- Musky Triggers
- Understanding Canadian Musky Hotspots
- How to think “outside the box”
- Understanding wind shifts
- Studying color
- Crankbait techniques and secrets
- and "What happens when everything comes together."
Heiting also offers tips on easily releasing muskies. Steve and his guests punctuate the information by battling and releasing 13 different muskies.

Some have called the musky the fish of 10,000 casts, and that’s just for any fish. Trophy muskies can be even more rare and difficult to catch. But there are times when muskies are extremely active, when boating several big fish in a day’s time is not only possible, but predictable. These patterns can be applied almost anywhere. If you want to learn to recognize and apply these patterns, this video is for you.
Featured Subjects:
- Early Season Muskies: Muskies can be easy to catch when they’re shallow and hungry.
- Environmental Changes: Learn how conditions can trigger muskies to feed.
- Last Light Muskies: Perhaps the most important environmental change is the period just before dark.
- Muskies On The Rocks: An overlooked but consistent pattern where shallow, rocky structure exists.
- Storm Front Muskies: You need to fish fast when an approaching front turns big muskies on.
- Catch & Release: Learn the latest techniques to ensure a safe release for you and your musky.
